Jaume Plensa is known for his poetic approach to sculpture.
On view in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art's State Street Gallery in 2017, Jaume Plensa: Talking Continents was an enveloping installation of suspended steel forms that appeared to transcend their own physical weight and volume, and instead convey lightness, translucence, and fluidity. This floating body of work transformed the gallery into a space for contemplation.
Creating the gallery book
The MMoCA commissioned a 32-page gallery book for the occasion. It contained a foreword by the museum director, an essay by the curator, and stunning photography of the gallery space. The book was printed in one color.
In an echo of the display, I suspended the imagery on the pages of the book – whimsical, overlapping, deliberately random.
In addition, I created several GIFs used to promote the gallery opening on social media.
